Most products on the market require you to compromise in one area or another. Similarly, few smart protection devices focus on a single feature.

That’s not the case with the Owl Wired, an internet-enabled smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, and security monitor.

What Is the Owl Wired?

At first glance, the Owl Wired looks like a regular, ceiling-mounted smoke alarm. The white, circular unit attaches to a magnetic backplate, allowing you to place the detector in the ideal location for your setup.

As you’d expect, the device can alert you to fires by utilizing a photoelectric smoke sensor. This means it looks for smoke by analyzing light deflections.

Given the dangers of a burning fire, this might be reason enough to consider the Owl Wired. However, it’s also packed with a range of other features.

For instance, it can detect carbon monoxide, sense motion, analyze noise levels, and keep an eye on temperature and humidity. All services are protected by end-to-end encryption, so no one should be able to snoop on the data sent to and from the Owl Wired.

Owl Wired Features

The Owl Wired is a connected device so that you can keep an eye on your home remotely via the Owl Home smartphone app. There’s also integration with Apple HomeKit, IFTTT, Google Home, and Alexa. As a result, the unit integrates just as neatly into any smart home setup.

The designers also envisaged a future where the Owl Wired can trigger other smart home devices. For instance, you could create an app that’ll trigger your coffee machine when the Owl Wired detects movement.

For added flexibility, the Owl Wired has a rechargeable internal battery. Consequently, you can place the unit wherever it’s needed, rather than being tethered to mains power. The battery lasts up to three months and will recharge once connected to an external power source.

Where Can You Buy the Owl Wired?

The Owl Wired concept is still relatively new, having only entered research and development in January 2019. Then, the company showcased an early variant as CES 2020.

Despite this, the Owl Wired is expected to ship late in 2021. You can pre-order your device from the company’s website. The white edition is available for $139, while you can purchase an all-black variant for $149.
