If you’re a fan of Handspring’s Treo series of smart phones, this is good news. Handspring desperately needed an infusion of capital. Also, Palm doesn’t manufacture any phone-based devices, so the two companies’ products will complement each other nicely. It’s also terrific for Palm aficionados. The one knock on the PDA leader is that it hasn’t had a sexy product since the Hawkins-initiated Palm V. (The recently released Zire 71 was at least a step in the right direction.) We probably won’t see any Palm designs from Hawkins for another year, but we bet they’ll be worthy of applause.
