Einstein was just a struggling professor in Prague when he began keeping notes on his theory in 1911. The graceful scribblings include an entry in which he crossed out the L in a certain equation, thereby changing science classes forever. Nine years ago an anonymous buyer picked up the unpublished, 72-page oeuvre for $1.2 million. It’s still for sale, but don’t bother offering less than $4 million.
